New Book! & What we are looking at right now

May 06, 2021 by Shardul Oza

Greetings!

If you are teaching right now we have no words to champion your efforts (and truly, good enough IS good enough!) as you hang on and complete this school year. We don’t like to support over-working and hero narratives around teaching, and also— teachers are remarkable.

Three quick things we have to share with you.

  1. The first is that we are getting published in a book coming out very soon! You can check it out below. We are fans of anthologies (I particularly LOVE the Best American Non-Required Reading Series also known as BANR by nerdy fans of the series like me, I can’t help but slide in a book rec)! and it is pretty neat that we get to be a part of this anthology conversation about our how we’ve approached our work in private schools. Here’s the book: Anti-Oppressive Education in "Elite" Schools

  2. I’ve been hopping in and out of some of these sessions and I wish we had more access to resources like these. Emotions are at the heart of learning and what we do. Emotional hygiene is a learnable skill! The summit: Science & Wisdom of Emotions Summit

  3. As the year wraps up (and always) Kristin Wien’s brilliant graphics are clutch resources to turn to without having to do any reading and who doesn’t love a visual?. Just a peek at these keeps me grounded in our child honoring values and practices. The particular one below comes up hourly in fostering peaceful spaces in the SPED world (here with Gabby), but of course, as we make our classrooms and worlds more accessible the tools support everyone! Also, we discuss power in many justice-oriented ways so often in our classrooms, it’s a good reminder to think about the other ways power plays out, too. So, check out the one I am turning to most right now below.

That’s all. Be well! And good enough is good enough!
